Slave Mart Museum- 6 Chalmers St.  - 843-724-7395
Presentations at this slave market offer a glimpse into the lives of the slaves sold at auction in Charleston, examples of the African and Caribbean influences in local culture in art, cuisine and music, and an exploration into the civil rights movement in the area.  For a short history of the Gullah culture, click here

Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture  - 125 Bull Street-  843-953-7609
Located in the former “Avery Normal Institute” for black scholars, the museum houses permanent and visiting exhibits, including archival materials relating to the African-American populations of the regions sea islands known as the “Gullah” culture.

The Best Friend Museum - Ann Street- 843-973-7269
“The Best Friend of Charleston” is a full size replica of the first passenger service train in the US

The City Hall Gallery - 80 Broad Street
Free and open to the public- several portraits of famous regional and national leaders.

The Confederate Museum - 188 Meeting St. - 843-723-1541
Open only on weekends

Containing flags, uniforms and other Confederate memorabilia, the museum is run by the Daughters of the Confederacy.

Drayton Hall - 3380 Ashley River Road- 843-769-2600
Considered to be one of the best examples of Georgian-Palladian architecture in the US. It is the only Ashley River Plantation to survive the Civil War.
